Come join our team! Miami County EMS provides 911 pre-hospital care to Miami County citizens and visitors, over 590 square miles of coverage. Operating out of four ambulances and three stations, Miami County EMS responds to approx. 4,500 calls for service annually. All units are equipped with LifePak 15 monitors, ReVel ventilators, IV pumps, LUCAS CPR devices, and Stryker Auto-Load cot systems. Continuing education opportunities are provided to employees. Employees work a 48 on/96 off schedule and receive 156 hours of vacation leave annually. Competitive benefits package is avaliable through the county. 

The EMT provides basic life support as a member of an advanced life support crew, in addition to:

  • Performs basic life support as determined by patient need.
  • Provide basic airway management and basic airway skills including oral suctions, oxygen administration, bag-valve mask ventilation, use of BLS airway adjuncts, and the administration of nebulized Albuterol.
  • Performs basic life support skills such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the use of the automated external defibrillator, the recognition and treatment of shock, the control of bleeding, bandaging, and splinting, and the administration of medications as indicated by the patient and as defined by protocol within the scope of practice of the EMT.
  • Identify the need for resuscitation and take appropriate measures to provide the patient with the best possible outcome.
  • Complete the patient care report that completely and accurately describes measures taken and the required information to assist with the patient's account for billing purposes.
  • Delivers high quality patient care in accordance with current Kansas Board of EMS regulations and the authorized activities of the Kansas certified EMT and as established by local protocol.
  • Participate in training to continuously improve basic life support knowledge and skills as part of on-going professional and personal development.
  • Serves as a representative for Miami County EMS, exemplifying department values.
  • Provides ethical leadership and mentoring to others for their benefit and the benefit of the organization.
  • Supports the leadership of the EMS department to reflect the mission, values, and culture of Miami Count EMS.
  • Provides detailed cleaning, disinfection and decontamination of the ambulances and equipment.
  • Participates in department training as part of continuous quality improvement.
  • Participates in the department's health and wellness program including physical fitness and physical agility.
  • Participates in shift and department meetings to review call data and trends in emergency services.
  • Participates in community and public education including demonstrations to schools, civic groups, and local businesses.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Kansas Certified EMT required.
  • AHA BLS Provider Certification preferred or will provide within 6 months of employment. Completion of NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 required during orientation.
  • Position requires on-call/stand-by work; required to work on holidays; shift work
  • Proper uniform required.
