Pottawatomie County EMS is currently accepting applications for EMS personnel to support emergency medical operations throughout the county. PCEMS is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care while fostering a professional, team-oriented workplace. Our positions offer flexible scheduling and are ideal for providers seeking supplemental income, schedule adaptability, or continued involvement in prehospital care.

PCEMS provides comprehensive prehospital emergency medical services across Pottawatomie County’s 862 square miles, serving a population of more than 26,000 residents, including portions of the City of Manhattan. PCEMS operates from five fully staffed, 24/7 EMS stations strategically located in Blue Township (Manhattan), Wamego, St. Marys, Westmoreland, and Onaga, ensuring timely and reliable emergency response throughout both urban and rural areas of the county. The service is supported by a strong leadership and command structure, with a Lieutenant and Captain assigned to each shift, providing consistent field supervision and operational oversight. Command staff is further supported by an Assistant Director and EMS Director, who oversee system-wide operations.

Pottawatomie County EMS responds to approximately 2,500 calls for service annually, working in close collaboration with local fire departments, law enforcement agencies, hospitals, and regional healthcare partners to deliver high-quality, patient-centered emergency medical care.

Full-Time Scheduling

Full-time EMS personnel with Pottawatomie County EMS work a 48-hour on / 96-hour off (48/96) schedule, providing a predictable rotation that supports work-life balance while ensuring consistent countywide coverage. This schedule allows for extended recovery time between shifts and promotes provider wellness while maintaining high operational readiness.

PRN Minimum Requirements

To maintain operational readiness and consistency of care, PRN staff are expected to meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Minimum of 12 hours worked per month
  • Minimum of 36 hours worked per calendar quarter
  • Preferred participation in two (2) holiday shifts per year
  • Required participation in at least the minimum number of scheduled standbys each year

These expectations help ensure PRN staff remain clinically proficient, operationally ready, and integrated within the PCEMS team.
