Reports to: EMS Director
About Us
Ottawa County Fire District #4 EMS provides emergency medical response and patient transport throughout our rural service area, running approximately 200 calls a year. We pride ourselves on compassionate, professional care and strong teamwork in sometimes challenging rural conditions.
Position Summary
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides pre-hospital emergency care and transportation for the sick or injured at the Basic Life Support (BLS) level. EMTs operate under established medical protocols and Kansas EMS regulations, ensuring timely, safe, and effective patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to emergency calls and provide BLS care to patients.
- Assess, stabilize, and safely transport patients to the appropriate medical facility.
- Maintain professional communication with dispatch, partner agencies, and medical staff.
- Assist with the maintenance, inventory, and restocking of EMS vehicles and equipment.
- Complete electronic patient care reports (ePCRs) accurately and promptly.
- Participate in training, community outreach, and quality improvement activities.
- Utilize the Incident Command System (ICS) during mass casualty or multi-agency responses.
Qualifications
- Current Kansas EMT certification
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Valid Kansas driver’s license with good driving record
- Knowledge of EMS protocols and communication systems
- Good physical condition, sound judgment, and ability to work under pressure
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
