This position meets all the requirements set forth by the Kansas Board of EMS for the position of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Under the general supervision of the paramedic/shift supervisor, the EMT is expected to meet the urgent health care needs of all patients regardless of age or co-morbidity, consistent with their defined scope of practice. The EMT performs basic life support skills under the direction of the paramedic. The EMT must be able to exercise considerable judgment, problem-solving and decision making skills. The EMT provides out-of-hospital medical care to those with urgent needs, and is a component of the overall healthcare system. The EMT delivers care as part of a system intended to decrease the morbidity associated with sudden illness and injury. Work is performed with a substantial degree of independence within the framework of prescribed policies and procedures and under the general supervision of the paramedic/shift supervisor and the EMS Director.
